Renewal of the Soul, June 1 -
Marking the end of the Cleansing season, the Renewal of the Soul - created by ur-Lord ShadowDarkFyre and former Plainitian ruler: Lady Summer Rayne Dreamie ni DarkFyre - is a holiday dedicated to the re-dedication of Domani their faiths/beliefs. Straightforwardly enough, it is a renewal of the soul: a renewal to one's chosen path, chosen belief, and/or chosen deity.
*********************
Fellow Domani,
It's been a rough couple of years for us all, I know. It's been full of beginnings and endings, and a load of changes. And there's still plenty more where that camme from on the way. Understandably, we tend to feel run down and worn out. All of us.
So, we must never forget to take the time to renew ourselves. Rebbot. Start anew. Open the windows and let some fresh air into our lives. Help some things to grow.
Among the many holidays and seasons I've missed announcing this year has been the seasons of the Greening, which began March 1 and ended April 15, and the Cleansing, which began April 15th and ends today, with the Holiday of the Renewal of the Soul. For all of us who have felt sluggish within ourselves. I'm no different. But what better time to "reboot" than now?
This holiday was instituted as a day set aside for anyone who needs to renew themselves. If you donnae' take sometimr today to do so, take some time soon. It's important to the heart, mind, spirit, and body. In order to grow, sometimes you have to start anew.
Take the time, for there is magick in rebirth.
Good Dreaming.
-Lord Shadow
Fellow Domani,
Today is the holiday of Lughnasadh(pronounced Lounasa). I hope all of you enjoy this day, especially if you're sun worshippers. Get out and enjoy. Weave some magick with the sun. Dream Well.
*********************
Lughnasadh-Lammas, July 31st -
Lughnasadh means the funeral games of Lugh (pronounced Loo), referring to Lugh, the Irish sun god. However, the funeral is not his own, but the funeral games he hosts in honor of his foster-mother Tailte. For that reason, the traditional Tailtean craft fairs and Tailtean marriages (which last for a year and a day) are celebrated at this time.
This day originally coincided with the first reapings of the harvest. It was known as the time when the plants of spring wither and drop their fruits or seeds for our use as well as to ensure future crops.
As autumn begins, the Sun God enters his old age, but is not yet dead. The God symbolically loses some of his strength as the Sun rises farther in the South each day and the nights grow longer.
The Christian religion adopted this theme and called it 'Lammas ', meaning 'loaf-mass ', a time when newly baked loaves of bread are placed on the altar. An alternative date around August 5 (Old Lammas), when the sun reaches 15 degrees Leo, is sometimes employed by Covens.
Traditional Foods:
Apples, Grains, Breads and Berries.
Herbs and Flowers:
All Grains, Grapes, Heather, Blackberries, Sloe, Crab Apples, Pears.
Incense:
Aloes, Rose, Sandalwood.
Sacred Gemstone:
Carnelian.
Special Activities:
As summer passes, many Pagans celebrate this time to remember its warmth and bounty in a celebrated feast shared with family or Coven members. Save and plant the seeds from the fruits consumed during the feast or ritual. If they sprout, grow the plant or tree with love and as a symbol of your connection with the Lord and Lady. Walk through the fields and orchards or spend time along springs, creeks, rivers, ponds and lakes reflecting on the bounty and love of the Lord and Lady.

Snowaidene the Snow Queen, High Queen of the Domain and head of the Healers' Hall, posted this article for us, exploring the relationship between the Fae Folk and diagnosed cases of schizophrenia. Here's an excerpt:
Let me start by saying that until the little creatures begin showing themselves as real and 3D touchable as any other critter on earth and do it on a massive worldwide scale so that they’re able to be counted and kept track of like anyone else on the endangered species list, then you won’t ever really know for sure will you? So why don’t they? Well that’s one of those million dollar questions. As far as I can tell it’s a combination of them not actually existing in a physical sense beyond the spiritual realm and that they get a certain amount of pleasure in teasing and playfully messing with our minds."
http://forums.delphiforums.com/n/mb/mess
Snowaidene also posted this article for us, dealing with the subject of premature births. Read on:
On the other hand, there are troubling signs that a portion of the increase in late preemies those born between 34 and 37 weeks may be due to unnecessary Caesarean sections.
If slightly early birth sounds like no big deal, consider: A baby's brain at 35 weeks weighs only two-thirds of what it will weigh at 40 weeks, says a dramatic "brain card" developed by the March of Dimes to educate women. Some will catch up fine, while others have learning or behavioral delays. Also, being even a few weeks early can cause initial breathing problems if lungs aren't mature enough; feeding problems; even an increased risk of SIDS.

''Finding free, pagan-appropriate coloring pages on the Internet can be time-consuming. I have compiled several of my favorite free pagan coloring-pages Web sites below. Some of the coloring-pages sites are more appropriate for younger or older children. I have indicated age ranges where necessary. You can use these coloring pages to design and create special coloring books for your pagan children to celebrate Ostara or Yule.
Choose the coloring pages related to the holiday being celebrated, then bind at your local office supplies store with a hand-designed coloring book cover with your child's name on it. All of the pagan coloring pages Web sites below allow you to download the pages or sets of pages for free without signing you up for anything. Enjoy!"

"A student in your school practices a religion with which you may not be familiar. This leaflet is simply to give you information you may need to understand the different experiences this student may share with you, and answer any questions you might have.
What is a Pagan student likely to practice and believe? Because Pagans generally follow a non-creedal, non-dogmatic spirituality, there may be even more variants between Pagan religious beliefs than there are between denominations of Christianity."

"Wellspring and at Muin Mound Mad. ness, a member of ADF and of the Warriors Guild carried a sheathed spear around with him. At both festivals, there were individuals who felt justified in criticizing him for doing so. At Wellspring, someone was indignant at the fact that he would carry a weapon when there were children attending the festival. At Muin Mound Madness, someone criticized him for carrying a tool of war in a spiritual setting with no obvious purpose for doing so. The first individual raised the topic on the ADF e-mail lists, where it has created much controversy since. It is my purpose here to present the issue to the greater membership of ADF, and to argue for the position that the organization should not adopt a policy against the carrying of sheathed weapons at festivals. For the purpose of this article, "weapon" will refer only to those weapons which do not have an obvious utilitarian purpose. No one is proposing that knives and staves be regulated. The weapons at issue are those with blades or points. While there are those who question the legitimacy of weapons in any ADF contests, they appear to be a very small minority. The debate, instead, concerns under what circumstances weapons should be allowed. Most have agreed that warriors should be allowed a space in which to practice. The most controversial topic is whether the privilege of the warrior to carry a sheathed weapon should be restricted."

A millenium past, Aztalan was a stockaded settlement of mysterious outsiders who worshiped the sun. Near present-day Lake Mills, the Middle Mississippian culture erected stepped pyramids, perhaps practiced cannibalism, and enjoyed coast-to-coast trade. They lived there 150 years.

Fellow Domani,
Yesterday was the Domani Holiday of the Renewal of the Soul, as well as the end of the season of the Cleansing. I hope this season brought you a chance to clean up and out, in more ways than one. I also hope that you found a chance to renew yourself. We all need that at one time or another.
Good Dreaming and Blessed Be.

Cora Anderson 1915 - 2008
Cora Anderson, a co-founder with Victor Anderson of what is now known of as the Feri Tradition, passed on this morning at the age of 93. Cora Anderson was known as a Grand Master of the Feri Faith, a prolific writer, and was a key influence in the lives of several prominent Pagans and Witches.

Cora Anderson, matriarch of the Feri tradition.
"In Initiation, you literally marry the Goddess, her dual consort and the Gods, whether you are male or female... Always remember that the person you love as life companion or in passing is your son, brother and lover, and should be treated with love and respect as yourself and other half." - Cora Anderson, "Fifty Years in the Feri Tradition"
Among her students were groundbreaking Pagan musician Gwydion Pendderwen, activist and Reclaiming co-founder Starhawk, author, artist, and teacher T. Thorn Coyle, and current Feri Grand Master Anaar, among many others.
"It is Walpurgisnacht and my teacher is dying. There is a bale fire in my heart. We sing. We chant. We sit. We breathe. Every fire needs fuel. Every student needs a lesson. Her skin is translucent. There is blood in the corners of her mouth. Her eyes are clouded, barely open. She struggles to speak. "I love you," she says. "I love all of you." ... "I am going in and out," she says. We see her. Victor is there too, at the foot of her bed ... God Herself fills space and time. Fills the room. Including everything, we fall away." - T. Thorn Coyle, excerpt from "Bale Fire Need Fire Heart Fire (Cora)"
Her body will lie in state for 3 days, the Feri community asks that mourners and well-wishers burn a candle during this transition time for her. My blessings go out the Feri community and Cora's spirit. May she be reunited with Victor and be embraced by her gods.

In two days, Beltane will be here. Whatever your belief, it is to be a day and time of fruitfulness and productivity, as we draw closer to summer. I hope that your Beltane holiday is just that: a blessed and productive holiday. Dream Well.
-Lord Shadow
Beltane(Roodmas or May Day), April 30 -
Beltane has long been celebrated with feasts and rituals. Beltane means fire of Bel; Belinos being one name for the Sun God, whose coronation feast we now celebrate. As summer begins, weather becomes warmer, and the plant world blossoms, an exuberant mood prevails. In old Celtic traditions it was a time of unabashed sexuality and promiscuity where marriages of a year and a day could be undertaken but it is rarely observed in that manner in modern times.
In the old Celtic times, young people would spend the entire night in the woods "A-Maying," and then dance around the phallic Maypole the next morning. Older married couples were allowed to remove their wedding rings (and the restrictions they imply) for this one night. May morning is a magickal time for wild water (dew, flowing streams, and springs) which is collected and used to bathe in for beauty, or to drink for health.
The Christian religion has only one substitute for the Maypole -- namely, the Cross. Hence, in the Christian calendar, this was celebrated as 'Roodmas'. In Germany, it was the feast of Saint Walpurga, or 'Walpurgisnacht'. An alternative date around May 5 (Old Beltane), when the sun reaches 15 degrees Taurus, is sometimes employed by Covens. (Both 'Lady Day' and 'Ostara' are names incorrectly assigned to this holiday by some modern traditions of Wicca.)
Think of the May pole as a focal point of the old English village rituals. Many people would rise at the first light of dawn to go outdoors and gather flowers and branches to decorate their homes. Women traditionally would braid flowers into their hair. Men and women alike would decorate their bodies. Beltane marks the return of vitality, of passion. Ancient Pagan traditions say that Beltane marks the emergence of the young God into manhood. Stirred by the energies at work in nature, he desires the Goddess. They fall in love, lie among the grasses and blossoms, and unite. The Goddess becomes pregnant of the God. To celebrate, a wedding feast, for the God and Goddess must be prepared. Let Them guide you! Breads and cereals are popular. Try oatmeal cakes or cookies sweetened with a dab of honey. Dairy foods are again appropriate...just make a lovely wedding feast and you are sure to enjoy yourself! An early morning walk through a local park or forest could be fun for everyone. Gather up some plants or flowers to display in your home. Mom and daughter could braid their hair, and weave in a few tender blossoms.

Friday, October 31 - Sunday, November 2
Caer Aurora, Astoria
(Aurora, Wilsonville, and Hubbard, Oregon USA)
at the home of
Lady Dame Dena ni Nine Death Storms
(Dena Johnsick)
13911 Wisteria Drive NE
Aurora, Oregon 97002
It was originally to be between September 19 and 21st: as that is the weekend of the Autumnal Equinox, which was chosen to be the official date and time of the Feis. However, due to some developments, it had to be pushed back a month to the next possible sacred day. And we happen to have three for this: Samhain, All Hallows Day, and the Day of the Dead.
For everything, there is a reason.
So far, the guest list is as follows:
Officiating: Me
Hosting: Lady Dame Dena ni Nine Death Storms, Ruler of Astoria
Domani Attendees: Lady Dame Aradiana Merrows Ceridwen Adaria Ravensdowne ni VoceDeConscienza, provincial ruler of
Dragonfaire, Commoner of Astoria
Brigit Sunflame, Commoner of Astoria
non-Domani Attendees: C.J. Persistence - Puget Sound area, Washington State
For those coming into the Aurora area from long distance, the Super 8 in Wilsonville is the affordable choice for lodging. I'll wait till two months beforehand to reserve rooms for the Feis, just to get a gauge on who's going to be attending. Directions to and from the Aurora area, as well as directions to and from Lady Dena's royal home from the hotel, will come within the month.
As for the list of events, so far, these are the ones that are tentatively planned:
Friday, October 31(Samhain):
Arrival and Fellowship - Basically, we'll all be getting into town, arriving through Caer Portlandia(Portland, Oregon), and
travelling from there down to the Royal Court itself. From our hotel, we'll go to Lady Dena's residence for meeting and greeting.
As is the tradition of the Feis, a gift for the hosting ruler is encouraged. An idea of grilling has come to mind, which requires that
we all chip in for food and such. And a ceremony to bless the night and the Veil that night should be considered as well.
Saturday, November 1(All Hallows' Day):
Re-Knighting Ceremony - In the light of the Yellow Alert, and with the obvious attendance of so many Knights(a full five, possibly,
in attendance), it's only proper that that be the main ceremony of the day. An official oath - in short and long versions - has been
developed for Knighting. In light of it all, something will have to be sent ahead of me for the event. Or rather, someone...
Field trip: depends on where to and how far. I have my ideas, but I will hash those out with Lady Dena herself.
Songs for the Dead: As we are among the days of the Dead, perhaps some songs should be sung to soothe the souls and
send them back on their way. So I encourage each attendee to think of a song to sing for the event. See if we can't sing around a fire to send them on.
Noble/Knight Meeting - Where we sit together and hash out the details of the 2009 Feis, and anything else that comes to mind.
Sunday, November 2(Day of the Dead):
The Scattering - where we have our final goodbyes, perhaps even a little breakfast, and then scatter to the four winds.
RSVP me between now and September 1, 2008 whether or not you'll be able to attend, So I can keep a track of who is and who isn't going.
Hope to see some or all of you there. Good Dreaming.
